That's gonna hurt . Kid has lots of upside . Colorado and Joe Sakic are wishing they would have done a last minute deal . What the heck , They would not of honored the terms of the deal anyways with the new CBA the owners want.

This also drives a HUGE stake in the NHLPA's decertification legal battle.

It also definitely sucks for the Avs.

Sucks for Av's fans, but good riddance. Hope you love it over there flying in 1950's prop style airplanes and watching the newest and latest episodes of "Alf" and "Happy Days" on your 12" colour television.

I give him 6 months at most before he's begging to come back here.

Ya I know, Russia isn't as bad as that, but I like the way I am picturing it in my mind. I reject your reality and substitute my own

If we do in fact see a season in the near future do the AVs still hold his rights or can any team pitch him an offer?

Let him go... Being a fan of him or not but 50 pt players are a dime a dozen and he will be replaced. If mother Russia is a better place for him, I wish him the best.

This is going to happen more and more. The owners need to realize they don't have a monopoly on hockey. There are alternatives to the NHL!!!!

Was waiting patiently for Musick to blog about this but I'm glad you are on top of things 'league-wide'.. thanks Garth.

I disagree with those who think Ryan has played his last game with the Avs.. he will be back, but hopefully this wakes up Avs management. They need to stop being so damn stingy.

They may not have a monopoly on hockey, but they do have a monopoly on hockey leagues where one can make a comfortable living with financial stability. The KHL's financial system is a disaster.

Let me know when the majority of NHL players exercise those alternatives when the league starts up again.

The KHL are paying players more than they could make in the NHL.

Those of you that think the KHL players make more (in general) than they can in the NHL are morons. Do your research before spewing psycho babble. The top few players have awesome KHL contracts and the others make garbage and are basically playing to stay in shape.

SEE YA!!!!

Have fun flying around in those Russian death traps, in some foreign land where most of them won't know the culture, language, etc.

And they're only paying certain players more.

Not to mention, if you're a "top" player, and you're not Russian (I guess Jagr is an exception), you can forget about it as well.

Regehr is an idiot.

when he says the players are the only ones making concessions. What about the 18 owners that lost millions of dollars? Did it come out of the players pockets?
Just because the NHL makes money, doesn't mean that the teams are making money.

Buffalo lost $10.8 million last year. Regehr made over $4 million last year while only contributing 5 points and was a -12.

Here's what I think should happen to salaries. They are all prorated. No money is guaranteed, you are given a base which is adjusted every 2 months based on performance. How different would hockey be then?
